A 1.5 to 2-hour sail in Frenchman Bay — see wildlife like seals and porpoises, plus historical insights from a licensed captain.
This sailing trip in Bar Harbor lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours, taking you on a leisurely journey through Frenchman Bay. While aboard, a licensed captain provides narration on both historical and geographical points of interest, adding depth to your experience.
Wildlife is a highlight, with opportunities to spot seals, eagles, and possibly porpoises during your sail. Dress for the weather and keep in mind that it's always cooler on the water, especially if you’re sailing later in the day.

Rick proved to be an excellent guide—he was knowledgeable, humorous, and very accommodating. The experience was fantastic, especially the sights from Cadillac Mountain and the stunning views of Bar Harbor. Rick's understanding of the area's history was impressive.
We joined the last sunset sail of the season, which was a bit chilly, but the crew and the musician made it enjoyable with their great interaction. The views during the cruise were stunning. I highly recommend this experience.
The sunset cruise around the harbor was wonderful. There was plenty of comfortable seating for everyone, and having a guitarist onboard added to the experience.
The sunset cruise aboard the Margaret Todd was stunning. Live music and drinks for purchase added to the experience. We went on the last sail of October, which made it quite cold on the water, so I recommend dressing in layers and bringing gloves and ear coverings. A small blanket could also be helpful if you prefer not to layer up. The crew was fantastic—extremely friendly and well-informed. Thank you for a memorable vacation.
The experience was quite crowded with uncomfortable seating. The sound system was poor; I could hardly hear the captain, which led to missing most of his commentary. Overall, it didn't justify the cost.
This experience offers a fantastic opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings from the water. It truly was a remarkable adventure.
The boat was overcrowded, feeling like we were crammed in like sardines. Given the ticket price, it was unacceptable to have so many people on board. We think they combined two trips after canceling the later one due to weather. Looking back, for $100 extra, we could have chosen a private charter for a more enjoyable experience. Overall, this felt like a waste of our time and money, although the crew was friendly.
I highly recommend this beautiful experience. The views were fantastic, the ship was smooth, and the organization was excellent.
As the daughter of a captain, I found a few hours on a wonderfully cool sailing ship quite enjoyable, even if it was a bit blustery. I became concerned when our cruise ship changed the last tender time, worried I'd have to cancel despite it being just a short walk. However, my message and email were answered quickly, reassuring me that there were several cruise passengers on the afternoon tour and they’d ensure we returned on time—though we ended up waiting in line well past the deadline. I appreciated that food was allowed on board, making it possible for us to have a lovely picnic. My husband even went to get a couple of beers from the bar. I think they could likely sell more drinks if a crew member did a round, as many seemed hesitant to move. I received a warning from the captain for leaning on the guard wires, which made me a bit cautious about moving around, but it was quite fine to sit and shiver while taking in the views.
The young crew was fantastic! The Captain provided valuable information about everything we encountered. We spotted some eagles and learned about the difficulties faced by lobster fishermen. It was enlightening for this mountain man! I even helped raise a sail.
