This was an excellent experience. ML was an outstanding guide who communicated everything clearly and ensured our safety throughout the trip. I was solo, traveling with two others, which made it pleasant. He provided time for us to explore the site, take photos, and we enjoyed lunch together. The Slave museum was touching yet very educational. I suggest bringing a cardigan for the ferry since it can be a bit cold. The fish option for lunch is highly recommended as well.
Emmel served as our guide and was outstanding. His passion, articulate nature, and extensive knowledge made him welcoming to our questions, which he answered thoughtfully and confidently. He fostered a curious and enjoyable atmosphere, encouraging interaction among the group. Kunta Kinteh Island is steeped in history; being amidst the remnants of the slave trade brings a profound sense of awareness regarding the immense suffering endured. In a time when bigotry and cruelty seem to be escalating globally, this experience provided not only valuable insight but also a poignant reminder. The inscription under the statue, 'Never Again,' resonates deeply. I extend my gratitude to the organizers, drivers, and guides at Arch Tours for a remarkable experience.
This tour greatly exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it. I partnered with another solo traveler, and we both found the experience very rewarding. Our guide and his team were attentive and accommodating, providing us with in-depth historical and cultural insights. We gained a wealth of information and different perspectives. The guide was punctual and well-organized, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable experience. Thank you!
Kunta Kinteh Island, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds significant universal importance as a testament to the history of the African-European encounter and the slave trade. It’s crucial that protection, education, and remembrance guide future developments for both locals and international travelers. Enhancing visitor facilities in line with conservation principles, establishing safe and well-regulated docks both for departure points and on the island, as well as training local guides and operators, would promote stewardship and responsible tourism. Immediate conservation initiatives and better management will not only protect the site but also support local livelihoods for years to come. All visitors are encouraged to engage with the site respectfully, back local communities, and help preserve this shared heritage for future generations. Our gratitude goes to our guide, Mo Lamin (or ML, as he liked to be called), along with all those who helped make our visit memorable.
This tour offered excellent value for the money and is essential for anyone visiting The Gambia. Our guide was personable and well-informed, enhancing our understanding of Juffureh Village and Albreda. The highlight was visiting Kunta Kinte island. After the tour, we appreciated our guide's kindness and patience as he assisted us at the market. Thank you for creating one of our best days in your country. I highly recommend this tour to all.
Our experience at Kunta Kinteh Island was truly memorable, thanks to Modolamine from Arch Tours, who picked us up at our hotel. The tour was well-structured, featuring a museum visit, food, and drinks. Since we had already eaten breakfast and weren't hungry, Modolamine kindly refunded the lunch, which we appreciated. The guides were not only knowledgeable but also respectful, vividly conveying the island's history related to the transatlantic slave trade. Walking through the island, admiring the river views, and contemplating the poignant stories was deeply impactful. This tour is both educational and emotional, and it is organized impeccably. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting The Gambia.
The day spent exploring the history of slavery in Gambia was both fascinating and impactful. ML was a wonderful host. Thank you.
This experience was outstanding, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Modou (ML) made for an excellent guide, showcasing deep knowledge and resourcefulness. I would gladly join him on any tour. The locations we explored were significant and unforgettable, providing valuable insights into the area's history and the current lives of its people.
ML, our guide, was outstanding. His knowledge and enthusiasm stood out, and he knew the tour's highlights well. One major advantage of choosing this tour over those arranged by the cruise ship was ML's planning, which allowed us to sidestep the crowds and appreciate the sites in peace.
The transport from our hotel was punctual. Our guide, ML, was professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and communicated in clear English. The journey was smooth, the vehicle was comfortable, and the driver was skilled and attentive, which is impressive for Barra and Banjul.
