A full day by land rover — includes Banjul-Barra ferry crossing, Fathala Wildlife Reserve, and lunch, guided by local experts.
This full-day safari begins with a land rover trip to the Banjul to Barra ferry terminal. The crossing is an engaging glimpse into local life before heading to the Fathala Wildlife Reserve, known for its diverse wildlife, including rhinoceros, giraffe, zebra, antelope, and ostrich. Binoculars are a useful addition to observe the animals closely.
The journey offers insights into the daily lives of people in both Gambia and Senegal. After exploring the wildlife, a visit to a local village provides a deeper understanding of the culture. Lunch is included, making this an informative and enjoyable day out. Note that a minimum of two adults is required per booking, and if opting for the lion walk, participants must meet a height restriction of 1.5 metres.

I was part of a group of 25 ladies, and we used this tour guide for all our pre-booked tours, which did not disappoint. Managing 25 of us was challenging at times; we didn’t always follow instructions, and I could tell they sometimes wished for a quieter group. Armstrong was more laid-back compared to Lamin, likely due to his efforts to show control. In all seriousness, they took great care of us, ensuring we stuck together and advising us to secure our belongings and remain vigilant for pickpockets at Serkunda market. We packed a lot into our itinerary, and their offerings exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this tour guide for anyone looking to explore Gambia beyond just the typical tourist spots, which was a real eye-opener. Kudos to the team, especially Sofia, the only woman on the team, and a big thank you to the drivers who ensured our daily trips were safe. Special thanks to Lamin, who always had something important to say, and to Armstrong—without you, there’s no company. P.S. I hope the driver who forgot to engage the handbrake didn't face too much heat. We miss you all.
A group of 25 women from the UK enjoyed an amazing week with Armstrong and his team. While in The Gambia for a week, we dedicated four full days to Black and White Safari. They arranged various excursions, including an unforgettable experience of walking with lions alongside Armstrong at Fatahla in Senegal. Kudos to this Gambian company for being prompt and well-organized, taking us to experience the authentic Gambia through interactions with children and villagers while also giving back to the community. For a memorable adventure, I highly recommend booking with this company.
We were picked up from our hotel in a spacious vehicle and taken to the port of Banjul, where a large ferry transported us to Barra. It's essential to bring the yellow vaccination book with you. Afterward, we traveled by bus from Barra to customs to exit Gambia and enter Senegal. The safari was incredible, although the lions had transferred their hunting instincts. Our safari guide provided us with great information. We had to go through customs twice — once in Senegal and then in Gambia. If you forget the yellow book, be prepared to pay on the spot.
I went to The Gambia with a group of 25 women and had an incredible experience with the Black and White Safari Team. Despite being spread across three hotels, the coordination was flawless as we were picked up daily from our respective locations. Over the course of four days, the tours were well-organized and thoroughly enjoyable. They also arranged delightful lunches and refreshments during each outing. A standout moment was our visit to Fatala, where we had the extraordinary opportunity to walk with lions. This unique experience truly made our trip memorable. We also explored significant places like Arch 22, Monkey Park, Crocodile Park, Serrekunda Market, a local school, and Kunta Kinteh Island, which provided deep cultural insights and historical context. Managing a large group efficiently is no small feat, yet the Black and White Safari Team excelled at it. They were always on time, friendly, and knowledgeable, ensuring everything went smoothly. We felt safe and well-cared for, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. I strongly recommend Black and White Safari to anyone visiting The Gambia, as they helped create a truly memorable and meaningful journey for all of us.
Black and White tours demonstrated professionalism, trustworthiness, and friendliness. During my trip to Gambia with a group of over 20 women, they provided valuable insights and ensured we felt safe, comfortable, and happy throughout our experiences. Thank you to the entire team for your hard work; it was genuinely appreciated.
I want to express my gratitude to Armstrong and his team. The organization of this tour was impressive, and the guide was not only friendly and approachable but also very knowledgeable. The drivers were excellent throughout. The tour made the most of our time, and the prices were fair and transparent. A truly lovely and professional tour operator that I would highly recommend.
The experience was outstanding. Our guide Sheriff took great care of us, making the journey smooth and ensuring everyone felt comfortable, particularly during the quick border crossing. The lunch stop was excellent, and the ferry ride was memorable, especially with the sighting of dolphins. I highly recommend this tour.
I was part of a group of twenty-five women, where I took on the role of the matriarch and the rebel. Our excursions were meticulously arranged by Marcia in collaboration with the Black and White tour operator, owned by Armstrong, with Ibrahim as our driver, Lamin as the manager, and Sophie assisting. They made for a fantastic team, and Lamin excelled at ensuring we arrived at each destination smoothly. The boat trips to Senegal were unforgettable, and walking with lions was my personal highlight, along with interacting with local children. Each of us had a memorable experience that we will cherish for a lifetime. I extend my gratitude to the Black and White team and Marcia for all the planning.
An incredible experience during our visit in December 2025. Our guide, Sheriff, was exceptional, and we were fortunate to have him join us on the fishing boat as well. I've recommended both this tour and Sheriff to everyone I know going to Gambia. A small tip: pack some snacks and a sweater or cardigan for the cool early morning ferry ride.
If you’re in the area, visiting the Gunjur Village Museum is a must. Unlike conventional museums, this place is vibrant and full of spirit. I was genuinely touched by the way the community's history and culture are so lovingly maintained and shared. You can fully engage with local customs, and the atmosphere is remarkably warm and respectful. Our guide's enthusiasm was infectious; he conveyed his passion and pride as if he were inviting you into his cherished home rather than leading a standard tour. I gained so much knowledge and felt welcomed throughout my visit. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the amazing individuals who contribute to this magical experience. This was a true cultural opportunity that left a lasting impact on me—definitely a recommendation for those wanting to experience authenticity.
