Two hours exploring J Ward Lunatic Asylum’s haunted areas — the governor's bathroom, gallows, and grave sites, learning about its notorious criminal past.
This ghost tour at J Ward Lunatic Asylum takes you through the dark history of one of Australia's most infamous sites, known for housing dangerous criminals like Chopper Read and Gary Webb. The two-hour walk includes chilling stops at the governor’s private bathroom, underneath the gallows, and in the original kitchen and shower block, where unsettling stories linger.
You will also explore the haunted West Wing, the eerie J Ward Block, forgotten exercise yards, and shadowy grave sites. Hear about the lives and fates of the inmates whose remains rest in unmarked graves. Dress comfortably, as portions of the tour include some uneven terrain.

I had a really good time during this experience. The host was wonderful, bringing a spiritual touch without being excessive. Unfortunately, there were some rude individuals who tried to be funny and talked over her, but she managed the situation very well.
The J Ward night tour is both fascinating and educational, providing a thorough history of its notorious past. Hearing the poignant stories of some detainees can be quite confronting, but the guides present them well. The access to various areas within the asylum, including the historic underground kitchens, is a highlight. Although we didn’t encounter any ghosts during our attempts with the divining rods, this added a fun element to the two-hour tour, making the experience lighter and enjoyable.
My daughter and I participated in the Ghost Tour on Friday, November 15th. We had a fantastic time; our guide was very knowledgeable and made it a lot of fun.
This was an excellent tour with a fantastic group. The ghost detection devices were effective, adding to the experience. Our enthusiastic guides were deeply knowledgeable about the Goal/Asylum, sharing captivating stories that helped us envision its past. I strongly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a cool experience.
It was an excellent evening. The tour guides provided fun, informative insights, and the ghost hunting stories were captivating, filled with plenty of engaging activities.
This was the worst tour I've experienced. We were restricted to just one cell, with no opportunity to explore. The activities could easily be disproven, and there was no real paranormal activity. Learning about the prison's history could have made the tour better, but we only heard about one or two EMF detectors, which were easily explained away by copper wiring in the taps.
The tour offers a fantastic glimpse into the history of Heard and its residents. It was fascinating to learn about the past, and the museum featured some truly remarkable artifacts.
This tour is certainly worth experiencing, with fascinating tales about the intriguing individuals who once inhabited the J Ward. I would happily return for another visit. It's remarkable how much remains unchanged since it closed. The tour guide is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Overall, this tour is fantastic, and I highly suggest checking it out.
The tour was highly informative and engaging, providing a fresh perspective. I really enjoyed it; the guides were excellent and shared fascinating historical insights.
The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, and we gained a lot from the experience. We shared many laughs and truly enjoyed ourselves. The rain added an extra layer of spookiness that made it even better.
