What's the itinerary?+
• Your reservation includes entry to Baeza Cathedral, allowing you to learn about its architecture and historical significance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003. • With your reservation, you also gain access to the "Torreón Puerta de Úbeda," a tower that protected the Úbeda Gate, which now hosts the “Medieval Baeza Interpretation Center.” This small center offers insight into the city’s medieval history and defensive system, along with panoramic views over the city and the Guadalquivir valley, and a model of the old walled enclosure. • Included in the guided tour is access to the classroom where Antonio Machado taught from 1912 to 1919, which remains preserved in its original state within the columned courtyard. Here, he developed his philosophical foundation and wrote much of his work. The classroom reflects the atmosphere of the early 20th century, featuring original flooring, period maps, student desks, copies of documents, the same worn blackboard, and items like a coat rack and an umbrella. • After its conquest by Ferdinand III in 1227, Baeza became a center of Christianity, resulting in the construction of several parish churches in late Romanesque style. Currently, only the church of Santa Cruz survives, located opposite the Jabalquinto Palace and the old University, and it is celebrated as a symbol of Baeza, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003. • Baeza is known as a university town, having hosted a university from the 16th to the 19th century and currently housing the Antonio Machado headquarters of the International University of Andalusia. The original institution was established in 1538 by a papal bull from Pope Paul III, initially located where the Baeza Museum stands today. It gained prestige over time, earning the nickname “Andalusian Salamanca” due to its prominence compared to other universities. The current headquarters was built on the site of the older hermitage of San León to address space issues. • Your visit will include stops at the Plaza de los Leones, the Civil Court, Public Scribbles, Old Butchers, the Arch of Villalar, and Puerta de Jaén. The historic center tour encompasses the Old University (indoor), Antonio Machado classroom (indoor), Santa Cruz Church, Santa Maria Square, Cathedral (indoor), the medieval tower of the Puerta de Úbeda (indoor) for viewing panoramic vistas, and Plaza de la Constitución (old market square). • To conclude the guided tour in Baeza, all visitors will participate in an olive oil tasting, featuring a selection of the finest oils from Jaén. This tasting will be accompanied by explanations of each variety's properties and an opportunity to ask questions from the team at The House of Oil.
