This tour of the closed city of Famagusta was truly thrilling. George, our guide, was friendly and communicated the fascinating history in an engaging and informative manner. I highly recommend this experience for anyone able to walk outdoors in the sun for a bit.
Our experience was likely to be very enjoyable, but the tour operator completely messed up our booking and took us on a different trip. We only discovered this mistake after talking to other passengers. When I contacted the operator, they assured me they would reach out the next day with a solution for the correct tour, but I never heard back. I ended up having to call them twice before I could secure a full refund. Overall, I found their handling of the situation to be unprofessional.
This was an excellent and concise tour of the ghost town in the occupied area of Cyprus, and the duration was just right. It could be beneficial to offer several start times since it began quite early.
The tour was genuinely captivating, led by the wonderful local guide George, who made the experience enjoyable. Although the journey had a somber tone, I appreciated learning about the history.
George was an excellent guide who provided a wealth of information and insights during the trip. It was a poignant reminder of the impact of war. Thank you for the experience.
This was a profoundly moving experience that was definitely worth the cost. Our guide, "King" George, was outstanding. The transportation provided was of good quality and had air conditioning.
Although we experienced a lengthy wait at the information center for the second group, the information provided was excellent. The trip to Varosha and the guided tour were both informative, but we felt we needed more time in the old city of Famagusta; an additional hour would have been ideal.
George, our guide, was exceptional and genuinely kind. The experiences I had were deeply moving, leading me to reflect on the troubling events from 1974, which I believe were not of divine origin. A sense of spiritual darkness lingers over Famagusta, which is unfortunate because the Turkish Cypriots share in the suffering. George strikes a commendable balance in his guiding, as this topic is quite personal for him. I hope for resolution since it's the circumstances, not the people, that are at fault.
We booked this tour through a site that indicated it was "likely to sell out." After confirming our reservation and payment, we were contacted to change the date to one when we wouldn't be in Cyprus, without any explanation. Later, we received an email canceling the tour with no reason given and were informed we had to request a refund to get our money back. This seems misleading since there shouldn't have been availability if they couldn't accommodate us.
George and Dimitri were excellent tour guides, sharing deeply personal stories from 1974. The Ghost Town has been on my bucket list since the early 2000s when I saw Famagusta from the beach on the occupied side. It was a significant experience that comes with a poignant history, and I hope to visit this once-great city again someday.
