What's the itinerary?+
• Sea Lion Caves is recognized as the largest sea cave in the United States, home to numerous sea lions. If you wish to observe or listen to them, this is the place to be. Be prepared to cover your ears and nose when we descend the elevators into the caves. Note: The tour covers over 200 miles, includes more than 170 audio narratives, and lasts approximately 7-8 hours. New, lifetime access with no expiration. You can use it any time, on any trip, and as often as you like. • Florence is a significant community on the Oregon Coast, located near the Oregon Dunes, making it a hub for outdoor activities. Additionally, it serves as an approximate halfway point on a lengthy drive between California and Washington. • Florence is known for a notorious event in dynamite history, which became one of the earliest viral videos on the Internet. On November 12, 1970, a 45-foot sperm whale washed ashore just west of this location. • Ahead lies Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park, named after a former commissioner of the Oregon Highway Department. The park offers a spacious beach, picnic facilities, restrooms, and a large campground. • The coming Cape Perpetua area features extensive scenic vistas, an ocean blowhole, a stunning forest, and a visitor center for further information. Several notable stops will arise shortly. • A safety officer will provide a cautionary note: a water rescue is extremely challenging in the turbulent waves, so please exercise caution. If the tide is high, it is advisable to remain on the paved trail and observe from a distance. • The Heceta Head area is on the horizon, showcasing excellent views and a historic 19th-century red-roofed lighthouse with a beam visible from 21 miles away. • A safety officer will again remind everyone that a water rescue is highly difficult due to the turbulent waters, so please be careful. • We will soon reach Yachats, which is a perfect representation of a coastal Oregon town. Here, you will find a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, a brewpub with unique ingredients such as spruce beer, a great fish market, and a few visitor shops. • There are no essential stops, but the town is quite enjoyable, featuring a couple of dining options. It is notable for being where the Alsea River meets the Pacific Ocean, and an interesting bridge is approaching. • Throughout the tour, discussions will highlight Conde McCullough's role in designing many coastal bridges. However, we are about to traverse a bridge he did NOT design. This bridge over Alsea Bay opened in 1991, replacing the original, which McCullough had built in 1936. • It would be quite an honor to have a park named after you. We are approaching Brian Booth State Park, named in 2013 after the first chairperson of the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission. • Newport offers several notable stops if time permits and if you feel ready to explore a little. The Bayfront is highly recommended for a visit. • On the ocean side is the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. The name "Outstanding" is fitting, as it hosts the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon Coast, which rises 93 feet above the cliffs. • On the inland side, a brown sign will identify Beverly Beach State Park. Although we may not be searching for a campground, I wanted to mention one of my favorite coastal camping spots. • While we navigate the Otter Crest Loop, we will pass Cape Foulweather, which is, depending on the day's conditions, also aptly named. The first European to document the sighting of Cape Foulweather was the British explorer Captain James Cook in March 1778. • If you're looking for a brief walk and it's low tide, you can go on a search
