Three to four hours guided climb on the Intro Wall — safe climbing with cable and steps, stunning views, and a hike back down the Nesaksla mountain.
This guided Via Ferrata climbing experience on the Intro Wall offers a thrilling introduction to climbing in Åndalsnes. The adventure lasts approximately three to four hours, during which climbers are secured to the route via a continuous cable system and steps, making it accessible to all levels of experience.
After reaching the top, the descent follows a popular hiking path back to town, providing an opportunity to soak in some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. No prior climbing experience is necessary, making this a suitable activity for a wide range of adventurers. Don't forget your camera for the breathtaking views along the way.

Our first experience with via ferrata was quite enjoyable. As seasoned climbers, I initially expected the introductory wall to be simple, but there were both easy stretches and some challenging parts that kept things interesting. It's accessible for fit non-climbers too, provided you're comfortable with heights. It's similar to Go Ape, but on a cliff face.
This route is ideal for those new to climbing. As someone with no experience, I found the path to be excellently designed with steps and safety wires, making it feel like an advanced staircase. You'll experience the height while feeling secure. Our guide, Peder, is very professional. If you haven't tried via ferrata before, this tour will surely get you excited about it.
This was an incredibly enjoyable trip, and it was challenging as well. Having done via ferrata previously, I can attest that this experience is excellent. The guide was calm and friendly.
I experienced an enjoyable climb with beautiful weather and friendly companions. The views were nice, and the route was well-designed for beginners. I am keen to attempt the more advanced route next time.
My 17-year-old son and I booked a Noon guided intro wall via ferrata two months ahead of our cruise port day. The Norsk Tindesenter (Mountaineering Center) is conveniently located at the pier in a beautifully designed building. After checking in, we received our climbing harness and helmet. Note that gloves are required; I brought my own belaying gloves from Amazon, but they sell gloves on-site as well. Good hiking shoes are crucial, and they offer rental boots if needed. Our group had five guests, and our guide was Jorund. It’s wise to pack a backpack with water and extra layers suitable for the weather. We were lucky to encounter a partly sunny day and got a bit warm during the climb, but it was cooler at the summit, making the extra layer useful. You can carry a phone or camera, but it needs to stay in a zippered pocket to avoid dropping it; a strap would be handy for when you want to take pictures. Despite being labeled as the intro wall and geared for beginners, this is still quite challenging. I’m 56 and in decent shape, but I found it tough. Basic upper body strength and leg flexibility are needed. Those afraid of heights should reconsider. The route includes metal rungs, boards, small footholds, rock edges, and belay rings for hand and foot grips. At 5'1", I struggled as some metal holds were too far apart, and I fell once; thankfully, the safety harness worked perfectly, allowing only a minor fall of a few feet, and I could easily get back on track. I sustained a few small cuts and bruises but managed to complete the climb. Jorund was fantastic—supportive and encouraging throughout, sharing stories about his life in Norway. He even assisted me with a rope in a couple of tough spots. My son had a blast with no difficulties. The views were stunning, and there were many safe spots for photos. The guided climb takes you slightly more than halfway up the mountain, after which a short hike leads to the main hiking trail to the gondola station. You can choose to walk back down with the guide to the mountaineering center (a 45-minute trek) or continue on your own. Just remember to return your helmet and harness afterward. My son and I decided to keep going, stopping at the Rampestreken Viewpoint before reaching the gondola station (which took us an hour). We enjoyed a snack at the cafe there and then took the gondola back down to town. The hike was steep and involved lots of steps, and we were already tired from climbing, but we were glad we chose this extra trek. The gondola station is right next to the Mountaineering Center. Overall, this was an excellent experience, and I'm proud of myself for completing it, with a little help from Jorund. Just be fully aware of the challenge before signing up.
I’m not particularly comfortable with heights, but this experience was incredible. The guide was fantastic, prioritizing safety and taking things at a leisurely pace. The views were stunning and the weather perfect. Just be prepared for some vertical climbing requiring a bit of strength. A small backpack, like a Camelback for easy water access, is recommended. There’s a picnic bench for enjoying some snacks with an epic view.
The experience was fantastic. I had initial concerns about my ability and safety, but our guide Isaak was thorough and composed. He explained everything clearly and emphasized that enjoyment was more important than speed. Both of my teenagers and I had a great time. Climbing felt secure, and I would definitely recommend it. The walk up the mountain offered beautiful views throughout.
My wife made a reservation for us to climb the Via Ferrata - Intro wall. After speaking with our guide Jakk, my wife chose not to climb due to our challenging hike the day before. I appreciated Jakk's willingness to make that tough call, as it reassured me of his professionalism. His guidance was clear, calm, and patient throughout the climb, which turned out to be an unforgettable experience. A fair level of fitness and comfort with heights are needed. The views are stunning, and the thrill of climbing along a rock face really amps up the excitement—I’m still exhilarated and smiling about it. Jakk was also a great person to be with, safely tethered to a rock face, several hundred meters above ground, soaking in the scenery.
The guide was knowledgeable and displayed excellent leadership while providing support without being condescending. It was a tiring experience, but overall, it was very enjoyable.
Not suitable for all 12-year-olds. Consider your child's comfort level before deciding to go, as they may refuse to continue if scared, and you won’t receive a refund due to their strict policy.
