Guided tour of Almería's Civil War shelters

This two-hour guided tour takes you into the underground shelters of Almería, significant for their historical role during the Spanish Civil War. Built between 1937 and 1939, these shelters protected around 40,000 residents from bombings and are noted for being the best preserved in Europe.

The tour begins with a 13-minute introductory video, followed by the sound of sirens to set the scene. You'll descend either via stairs or an elevator to a depth of 9 metres, walking along a 1-kilometre path that illustrates life during that tumultuous period. Key stops include the hospital and warehouse that served crucial roles during the war. The experience concludes in front of the School of Art, after navigating a unique corridor.
