What's the itinerary?+
• The tour begins with a pickup from the hotel, followed by a day trip to Patan and Modhera. You will head towards Patan, an ancient city established in 745 AD by Vanraj Chavda of the Chavda Kingdom. Patan is known for its Patola weaving. Patola, or Double Ikkat, from this region of Gujarat reflects India's rich textile heritage. This weaving technique dates back centuries and attracts enthusiasts of fine textiles. The fabric has no reverse side and displays identical designs and colors on both sides. The murals in the Ajanta caves bear resemblance to the tie-dye method used in Patola. According to legend, around the 12th century, King Kumarpal of the Solanki dynasty invited 700 families of Patola weavers from Jalna in South Maharashtra to settle in Patan. One such family, the Salvis, has continued this traditional craft for four generations. • You will also visit Rani ki Vav, a stepwell in Patan that exemplifies subterranean architecture in Gujarat. Steps lead down to the water level of the well. Constructed by Queen Udayamti of the Solanki dynasty, Rani ki Vav represents outstanding Indian architecture and links the classical stepwell design with a kunda. In addition to the straight staircase, the stepwell features lateral staircases and broad stepped corridors. • The journey then continues to Modhera, home to the Sun Temple, a remarkable example of Indian architectural style from its era, built in 1062 A.D. in honor of the Hindu Sun-God, Surya. The temple is situated on a high platform overlooking a deep stone tank. This masterfully crafted structure is adorned with carvings of deities, birds, animals, and floral designs. Built by King Bhimdev I (1026-27), it is inspired by the famous Sun Temple of Konark, which predates it by only 200 years. Like the Konark Sun Temple, the Sun Temple at Modhera is designed so that the dawn sun illuminates the image of the sun God during the equinoxes. Access to the main shrine and hall of the complex is via a pillared porch. Similar to the Somnath temple, this temple was also damaged by Mohamed of Ghazni.
