Tungabhadra River

The Tungabhadra River meanders through Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, carving out scenic landscapes dotted with boulders, ancient temples, and lush paddy fields. This river, sacred in local mythology, plays a central role in the area's history, having nourished the Vijayanagara Empire during its zenith in the 14th to 16th centuries. Spending time along its banks offers a unique perspective on Hampi’s rich heritage; boat rides provide close views of the surrounding ruins, especially around sunrise or sunset when the light casts a golden hue over the water. Note that the river can swell during monsoons, altering its character significantly.
