Elephant Stables
Hampi, India

The Elephant Stables is a grand structure in Hampi built in the 15th century, designed to house the royal elephants of the Vijayanagara Empire. Its Indo-Islamic architecture features fourteen domed chambers arranged in a row, each with a distinct archway, and a spacious courtyard adorned with lush greenery.
Plan to explore during the cooler early morning or late afternoon, when the play of light accentuates the smooth stonework. The site is a short walk from the nearby Zenana Enclosure, which includes the Lotus Mahal and several other historic structures, making it easy to combine visits.
