Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Hampi, India

Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary
Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is a 1,400-hectare reserve established in 1994, primarily to protect the Indian sloth bear population. The sanctuary's rocky terrains and dry deciduous forests also host other wildlife, including leopards and several species of deer, creating a unique ecosystem just outside Hampi. Visit in the early morning or late afternoon to see sloth bears foraging for ants and termites, a behaviour that is particularly engaging. The sanctuary is located about 15 kilometres from Hampi and can be easily paired with a visit to the nearby ancient ruins for a day of exploration in the region.
