Government Museum

The Government Museum in Chennai is one of the oldest museums in India, established in 1857. It houses an extensive collection of art, archaeology, and natural history, with highlights including South Indian bronze statues, ancient pottery, and an impressive geological gallery. The building itself features Indo-Saracenic architecture, enhanced by large gardens. Plan for a couple of hours to see the main exhibits, ideally in the morning when the museum opens, to avoid crowds.
